Looking for: an experienced Baker AND a more junior Baker! Our founder is the head baker, but the business needs him to spend more time at his computer, and less time in the kitchen :( It's baking. Early mornings 2-3x a week. We're a mix of wholesale and direct-to-customer, but we're much more 'let's make 2000 delicious bagels' than 'let's decorate 100 pastries like a Michelin restaurant'.
If you're thinking 'ok, that sounds fun', then please keep reading! Job Titles: Experienced Baker (bagels!) & Junior Baker (bagels!). This is NOT pastry work.
Location: 999 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11216. Off the A/C. It's a big commercial kitchen, good equipment, and a massive dishwasher.
Schedule:
- Experienced Baker: part-time (2 weeks onboarding), then
full time hours (late April and onward).
- Junior Baker: part time (4 weeks), then
f ull-time hours (mid-May and onwards).
Saturday and Sunday are mandatory early mornings. 3 AM start on Saturday, 4 AM on Sunday. Cool? Cool.
Pay:
- Experienced Baker: $24-$29/hr depending on your experience
- Junior Baker: $21-$23/hr depending on your experience
Product: bagels and toppings of all kinds!
- It's like running a bagel shop on the weekends...
- and during the week, making much, much better Bagel Bites, on real NY mini bagels, for the freezer aisle in grocery stores.
Responsibilities - Thousands of bagels! We have a 60qt spiral mixer (>50lbs flour at a time), a dough divider, a proofer, and lots of other fun equipment to make it easier. You will need to learn how to hand-roll bagels. It's not too hard :)
- Varied cream cheeses, spreads, and other items for our bagel shop/stand at farmers markets
- Tons of mini bagels and sauces for the frozen pizzabagels, and packaging them up in boxes
- Supervise a small team of 2-3 assistants each shift (Experienced Baker)
- Set bagel stand menu with founder each week, including monthly specials (Experienced Baker)
Requirements - Strong communication and leadership skills, including patience and team guidance (Experienced Baker)
- Comfortable producing a lot of food at a high level of quality, with a team to help
- Ability to lift 50 lbs+ (flour, etc).
- Dependable and punctual
Preferred Qualifications (Experienced Baker)- Baking experience (3 years+)
- You’re eager for responsibility, to learn, and to lead your own small team
- You walk the line between being creative and an ability to produce at a high volume
