YOUR ROLE

As Retail Construction Project Manager, you are the end-to-end owner of North America retail construction projects, including new store openings, relocations, and remodels. You serve as the central point of coordination across design, leasing, merchandising, vendors, landlords, and internal stakeholders—ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to brand standards.
You will manage all phases of construction—from pre-construction and bidding through execution, closeout, and punch list—while balancing cost control, quality, schedule, and operational readiness. This role is critical to delivering consistent, high-quality retail environments that reflect the L’Occitane brand and support commercial performance.

PROFILE

  • A highly organized, detail-oriented construction professional with strong ownership mindset.
  • 5+ years of construction project management experience, preferably within high-end or specialty retail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong understanding of retail construction trades, schedules, and cost controls.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with Design, Leasing, Merchandising, and Store Operations.
  • Confident communicator who can manage vendors, contractors, landlords, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and MS Project
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general construction standards
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and schematic drawings
  • Familiarity with union and non-union contractors and major mall operators (e.g., Simon, Macerich, GGP, Taubman)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure
  • Hands-on problem solver who anticipates risks and drives timely resolution.
  • Willing and able to travel extensively (50%+).

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pre-Construction & Bidding
    • Partner closely with Design, Production Architects, MEP/Structural Engineers, millwork vendors, and code consultants to align scope, budget, and constructability.
    • Collaborate with Leasing, Merchandising, and Retail Teams during project development and planning.
    • Ensure bid packages are complete, accurate, and aligned with approved scope.
    • Establish bidder lists, issue bid instructions, analyze proposals, and award contracts.
    • Negotiate contractor fees, vendor costs, and change order pricing.
    • Produce purchase orders for owner-supplied items and coordinate delivery timelines.
    • Optimize project sequencing, schedules, and costs to support timely store openings and renovations.
  • Construction Execution
    • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the construction phase.
    • Conduct a minimum of two site visits per project; issue detailed site visit reports.
    • Maintain continuous communication with contractors and site supervisors regarding progress, risks, and schedule.
    • Manage and update project schedules across multiple active projects.
    • Develop and maintain project progress tracking and cost control reports.
    • Ensure construction is executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and brand standards.
    • Proactively identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, drawings, and records.
    • Participate in weekly construction and project status meetings; communicate clear internal updates.
  • Closeout, Punch List & Financial Control
    • Manage punch list completion and verify quality of finished work.
    • Review and approve contractor and vendor payments.
    • Evaluate, negotiate, and resolve change orders.
    • Ensure timely and complete project closeout, including documentation and final inspections.
    • Deliver projects on time and within approved budgets.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership
    • Coordinate closely with Store Operations to ensure operational readiness at handover.
    • Partner with Merchandising and Visual teams to support store opening requirements.
    • Maintain productive relationships with landlords, mall management, and local authorities.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities to improve construction processes, standards, and cost efficiency.
    • Apply lessons learned across projects to improve speed, quality, and consistency.
  • All other duties or projects as assigned
