Regulatory & Compliance Intern

Role Summary
The Regulatory & Compliance Intern will support the team responsible for ensuring that all vehicles sold in North America meet federal and state regulatory requirements for emissions, safety, and field service actions. This role provides hands-on exposure to the certification process for new vehicles, compliance reporting, and the workflows used to manage field service actions such as recalls and service campaigns.
The intern will work closely with regulatory specialists, certification engineers, and field action coordinators to gain insight into how automotive manufacturers maintain compliance across the full vehicle lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Certification & Compliance
• Learn the foundational regulatory requirements for automotive sales in North America, including EPA, CARB, NHTSA, and Transport Canada rules.
• Support the team in gathering, reviewing, and organizing documentation needed for vehicle emission and safety certification.
• Assist in maintaining internal certification tracking tools and databases.
Field Service Actions (Recalls & Campaigns)
• Build a centralized tool or dashboard to organize historical field service action launches, including timing, scope, and regulatory filings.
• Help document end-to-end processes for recalls, service campaigns, and customer satisfaction programs.
• Support the launch and tracking of new field service actions as needed.
Government Agency Interaction Support
• Track incoming inquiries from regulatory agencies (e.g., NHTSA, EPA, CARB) and help route them to appropriate internal stakeholders.
• Assist in preparing data packages, responses, and reports for regulatory submissions.
• Maintain logs, deadlines, and status updates to ensure timely and accurate responses.
Compliance Reporting & Data Analysis
• Monitor field service action completion rates and develop recommendations to improve performance.
• Support monthly and quarterly compliance reports by pulling data and verifying accuracy.
• Analyze trends and identify process improvement opportunities in compliance workflows.
A Day in the Life
• Developing and refining a tool that consolidates historical field service actions in an accessible and user-friendly format.
• Reviewing new agency communications and logging them into the team’s tracking system.
• Partnering with certification engineers to understand upcoming model-year regulatory requirements.
• Monitoring recall or campaign completion performance and preparing a short insight summary.
• Participating in team meetings to observe how compliance risks are assessed and managed.
Qualifications
• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Data Analytics, Public Policy, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and data organization tools.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Curiosity about automotive regulations, compliance, or product quality.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with data visualization (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
• Interest in automotive technology or regulatory affairs.
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams.
• Basic understanding of compliance, auditing, or project management concepts.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
The hourly compensation for this internship is $22.00 per hour. The rate of pay offered is based on factors such as a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education, and overall alignment with organizational needs.
