Position Summary

The Youth Minister (Director of Youth Ministry) is a salaried, part-time position responsible for coordinating all youth fellowship activities within the church, interacting with the Children’s Minister, Senior Pastor, Methodist Preschool, Adult & Music Ministries, and participating in leadership for general church worship and events. The weekly time commitment is anticipated to average 20 hours per week.

Ministry Purpose:

 To design and implement a series of programs and relationship-building opportunities for children & youth of the church, as well as their families, and surrounding community to explore their faith and extend Christ’s reach.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with the church youth that develop a clear sense of context and needs of the youth in the church, foster a sense of trust and love, and create space for spiritual growth.
  • Equip and train student leaders and adult volunteers to serve in ministry leadership both in and out of the church building.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with parents of youth
  • Plan and lead regular youth gatherings (5/6, Jr High & Sr High) throughout the school year, as well as a few summer opportunities for the youth to gather in fellowship.
  • Organize and attend special activities such as events and retreats. ● Oversee Youth Ministry budget. ● Work with church staff and leaders to integrate youth into the life of the church Supervisory Responsibility:
    • Nurture volunteer adult leaders to achieve program objectives
    • Guide Youth Council through quarterly meetings to intentionally design the future of all Youth Ministry programs.

Direction Received:

  • Receives direction from the Senior Pastor.
  • Receives guidance from the Youth Council Experience

Required:

  • Requires a love of young people and previous experience in working with youth.
  • Degree or coursework in religious studies/seminary, education, social psychology, social work is desired.

Other Requirements:

  • Attend staff meetings
  • Prepares regular reports for Youth Council, Senior Pastor, and Church Council.
